The Gayatri Mantra is at least 2000-3000 years old, maybe even older. It is originally written in Sanskrit. there have been many attempts to translate it. Here are a couple of translations, but there are many more!
Swami Shivananda’s translation of the Gayatri Mantra is:
We meditate on the glory of the Creator
Who has created the Universe
Who is worthy of Worship
Who is the embodiment of Knowledge and Light
Who is the remover of all Sin and Ignorance
May He enlighten our Intellect.
Another translation by S. Krishnamurti is:
We meditate upon the radiant Divine Light
of that adorable Sun of Spiritual Consciousness.
May it awaken our intuitional consciousness. The title Gayatri Mantra could be translated as “Prayer of praise that awakens our energies and leads to liberation”.
