What is Mexican Healing? Workshop coming up!
March 20th, 2008 11:33 pmI met Darshna in January at an introductory workshop about Mexican Healing. I had never come across it before so I wanted to know more. Darshna kindly agreed to be interviewed by me.
Good morning Darshna, could you tell me how you got interested in Mexican Healing?
My name is Darshna and my history is very global. I am of Indian decent born in Africa but I lived in the UK since the age of six. In 2005 I crossed the world and decided to come and give Australia a shot, so I think I’ve pretty much covered most of the continents.
I came across the healing one evening when visiting a place called the Green Angel’s, a place where people gathered to play music, sing, read and just be in a community. The night I went some ladies were offering treatments from the Mexican Healing tradition. They had done some training in it already and they told us about two teachers who would be doing a talk and holding some workshops.
I had an amazing result with the treatments and wanted to find out more, so I went along to the talk and the next day turned up for the first workshop. I remember saying that although I had loved the treatments and was inspired, I didn’t think this healing was my path as it was a little out there. The funny thing is - I haven’t stopped using the medicine to help myself and others since that beautiful day four years ago.
Can you tell me a little bit about the history of Mexican Healing and the underlying Philosophy?
The Mexihka Medicina comes from Mexico, its roots are based on Filosofia Nauthl, Nauhtl being the ancient language of Mexico before the Spanish came to Mexico.
The basis of the tradition is that all things are linked, plants, oceans and rivers, the earth, the cosmic forces and us humans. We are all interdependent and we affect each other, with this in mind the medicina aims to bring back balance.
It works by treating everyone as an individual and treating the cause rather than just the symptoms. We treat on four levels: mind, body, spirit and soul.
We say the spirit is the life force and the soul is the auric body. Should these two be out of balance in a person through any trauma, then the mind and body will be affected.
The healing practices are not just about healing. The philosophy is a way of life, you get guidance to find yourself and what might be good for you and what not. The tradition has its own calendar and star signs that reflect a person’s nature.
Identifying your nature helps you to get to know yourself better and thus allows more harmony into your life. It has helped me to move away from things that caused me pain and anger, things that stopped me from growing further. It has allowed me to find my path and have the courage to let old beliefs go. I am very happy and each day is like a blessing.
In practical terms, what methods or processes do you actually use during the healing sessions?
We use Thalawyo, a very deep tissue massage that allows stagnant energy to be released from the body. The healer uses it also as a diagnostic tool to work out what is going on with the client.
Limpia is a beautiful treatment to remove energy that doesn’t belong to the client. It rebalances their energy. They are fantastic and I recommend them once a month for everyone.
Sustos are spirit retrievals, when someone has had an overwhelming or traumatic experience; a part of their spirit leaves them. A susto is all about recalling this part of the spirit back into the physical body, allowing the person to run on 100% of their life force again.
In the tradition we also hold Temescals. These are a type of sweat-lodge, for want of a better word, in the Mexihka tradition there are around 52 different ways to make a temescal. They are used to integrate us with our environment and the people around us. This ranges from healing after birth, resolving conflicts to healing various ailments.
What is the most exciting aspect of Mexican Healing for you?
The main reason I am passionate about the work and love practising it, is the fast response I see from people who receive a healing. The shift in energy and the release of emotional issues are amazing. The healing of serious illnesses can take more time but we have proven that if the person is willing then everything can be worked on. We have people in Europe, who are now healers in their own right, who have shifted cancer and bi-polar issues via the medicina.
Where can people contact you if they want more information or want to experience Mexican Healing for themselves?
I do my healing work from Surry Hills in Sydney, Australia.
One of my teachers will visit Australia in April. We will take appointments for healings with her. There will be talks and workshops as well as temescals.
For immediate appointments people can call me for healings.

Here is information for the upcoming workshops:
Healer Training in the
Mexican Medicine
Tradition
Workshop 1 commences on the
HUEHUE PACTLI - OLD MEDICINE…
This two day workshop will cover the basic theory and practical techniques
of the Mexihka Medicina. To the Mexihkas, the indigenous people of
Mexico, all ailments stem from an imbalance which can be physical,
mental, emotional or spiritual.
Techniques include:
Tlawayo - Is a form of healing massage that allows diagnoses and creates
a movement of stagnant energy held at a cellular level. It releases both
physical and energetic blocks that can help create lightness on both a
physical and emotional level.
Susto -
A treatment that works at a spiritual level to heal overwhelming experiences
we may have encountered in our lives, these encounters can
decrease our life force and leave us feeling heavy and low both emotionally
and physically. Left untreated these experiences can lead to illnesses of
the mind, body and spirit.
Limpia -
A form of energy cleaning, that removes stagnant energy and energy
that may not belong to us, once again these energies can have
impact on our emotional and physical well being.
living in harmony with our environment and within us. Using these
concepts enables to get better understanding of ourselves, our thought
patterns and our behavior. This philosophy is applied to all areas of the
Mexihka philosophy.
All of the treatments can be used as preventative measures as well as
treating what is already present. The power of the medicine lies in putting
us in touch with our instinct and willpower thus helping us to create
balance and harmony within us and with those around us. The freedom
of mind, body spirit and soul created allows us to manifest into our lives
what we all ultimately seek - HAPPINESS!! Ometeotl
We start with the Energy of the East - QUEZTALCOATL
The East is the direction of Medicine, it is the place of light and from this
place we can begin to develop the healer that lies within each one of us.
